Taking Our Tavern Game A Bit Deeper

Taking Our Tavern Game A Bit Deeper

In my last update, I shared a game I did in Unreal Engine 4 that is like the 80’s Arcade classic Tapper. Game testing with people and casual games did well, but I had a hard time being able to add more depth. Meaning… the core game loop of rewarding a player was not a great as I really want. Currently the game rewards players with playable characters that can be purchased thru the Treasure Chest or can be won randomly as the player plays the game more. I believe this can work on mobile although, I really wanted something a bit deeper. So thus the change and adding more depth and building a Tavern management style game that is similar to Order Up and Cook, Serve and Delicious. But with a top down approach and you moving thru out the Tavern you will upgrade and modify. So I put together a Tavern and added a bartender who can run around the Tavern. Pretty fun actually…  Then placed in 2 Patrons, who have orders and want to you(the Bartender) to take their order and serve them. This is shown below… So you the player, takes the order. Then the order pops up with a timer, based on the patron who walks into your tavern. Some can be impatient and others can be kind and forgiving. But overall, as you build up your tavern, you will get some interesting and impatient patrons. So this week, I am going to now get this order to be taken to the order station. A place where the the player will visit(behind the bar) and pop up a menu which will begin to choose which drink to mix for the patron. Should have more details...

80’s Arcade Classic – Early Development

80’s Arcade Classic – Early Development

Here is some early development images of my newest game set to release in the upcoming months. Below is a screenshot and some videos of the early development. The game mechanics use Tappers run and pour drinks arcade style game play. But I really wanted to enhance the game a bit adding it into a 3d world, having day and nigh cycles, unique bosses, random events, levels, and high scores. While I have a list of ideas and tasks on my Trello card for the complete game development. I do wish to get a alpha version out on PC and Mac first to allow gamers to play the game and compete online with high scores. Early Gameplay Of First Level   Core Game Mechanics And Loops A bit of research and thinking was done to get a grasp of the core game mechanics. I wanted to make sure I had a good core game mechanic that rewarded players when they completed a level. To do this, my first step was creating rewards of coins and building a collection of bartenders. The player can collect different bartenders either by purchasing them with the coins they acquired (as tips from their bar patrons) or by winning them in a random reward after completing more levels. This will add a nice opportunity to “collect them all” game play for games who like to collect all the extras in the game. Another added fun I am focusing on is creating an online high score website to allow players to compete around the world. Since I plan on releasing on the PC and Mac first. (Mainly because I want to add more animations and graphics to the game, without being limited to a mobile device). Then will tweak the game and add more features as I get more feedback and ideas. Rewards For Master Bartenders If you can overcome the onslaught of patrons that come into your bar then you will be rewarded! I put together this reward system as you see below to randomize what type of reward you will receive. In the image below you can see a playable character which is won by the player. I will have many additional playable characters which will have their own unique quirkiness and sound effects that you will be able to add to your collection. I will be posting more videos so free free to follow me on YouTube, Dream Bot Twitter and Facebook if your interested! As always, connect with me personally on my personal Twitter account!  ...

A UE4 Stackable Inventory System Without Using Any Code

A UE4 Stackable Inventory System Without Using Any Code

I recently began building a new RPG game using UE4. During the creation, I came up with a new stackable inventory system which I took from UE4 UMG inventory system and modified and added more features. After weeks trying to look for a good inventory system, Id didn’t want to use something that would break if the UE4 system was updated. After those weeks looking around, I found most UE4 inventory system’s were: Extremely Confusing to Understand Demanded Large Experience in C++ Not Able To Stack Items (Only 1 Item Per Slot) Not Able To Use The Items Not Able To Easily Add New Slots Not Scalable Not Including A Pickup Item System (To Add Dozens of Items Easily & Systematically) Extremely Confusing To Read (Did Not use Functions or Macros Correctly) Most Done By Using Code, Instead of Blueprints and Visual Scripting and other challenges… I was curious if you, and others of the Indie Game Developers community would be interested in my new stackable inventory system for the Unreal Engine 4.  I plan on creating a complete training platform for this stackable inventory system and cutting each segment of the process into small bite-sized videos, so you can always return to them if ever needing to re-use them. Not only that, I plan on including the source code to create this system that is 100% using blueprints in UE4. That means no coding, it’s all done in visual scripting and neatly organized and commented to understand how it all works. It would take about a few days to organize the information, but if there is a need or want from you and community, I will be happy to get it set up for ya. I put a video below explaining the system and how it works. If you are interested, please sign up below and I will send out an email to those developers who would like this as a product to use to build for their next game.   Sign Up Below If Interested In This System Game Industry Secrets To Succeed As An Indie! [Personal] From Never Coding Games or Doing Art.. To A Full Game with UE4

[Personal] From Never Coding Games or Doing Art.. To A Full Game with UE4

Let me start by saying,  it took me 5 months to go from ZERO to ONE! 5 Months ago I decided to dive deep into game development. Keep in mind… I never coded before UE4 I never created game art before UE4 I never created game animation before I never used UE4 (Unreal Engine) before At the time of this writing, a CEO who usually would hire a developer and artist has changed his mind and wanted to begin a small step in a larger journey. IMPORTANT UPDATE: Eye Guy – Reaction Time Rush is now on Steam Greenlight. If you have a minute, please stop what your doing and send me a “YES” vote. New Video Trailer For Steam Green Light It’s Eye Man 1.0 and it’s available on the following platforms at the time of writing: Apple App Store (iOS) **Available Now – New Update Submitted to Apple** Google Play (Android) **In Process** Vote For The Game To Be On Steam GreenLight In The Beginning When I started Dream Bot Studios, I really did mostly game design and learned the basics from working with developers, artists, and releasing games into the marketplace. My studio pushed out some simple games testing the waters of the mobile game market. Some did good, like Turbo Train and Vlad The Angry Viking. They even had write ups from Game Sauce and one of my games was an Indie Prize candidate at Casual Connect! It was a great learning experience. Although, I never felt I was able to contribute my ideas and creativity like I really wished for. Also, profits were very dismal and nothing really to build a business around. As an entrepreneur, you are always told to hire someone to do the project if you have the budget. I live by this philosophy, it’s great advice and will always hire specialists when I can or think it’s a good investment. But I knew making games and entertainment was what I loved. And something deep down was telling me I needed to understand all facets of game development as well as marketing the game. By understanding more of the intricate processes of producing a game. Then when the business is ready to grow, I would have a tight grasp on game development to build projects myself or have team members work with me. I have a 20 year vision… This means I will be developing really great games and entertainment for the next 20 years of my life. So when you look at a 20 year vision, it makes taking a year or more to dive into a new game engine like UE4, learning visual scripting, learning coding, learning game art and animation not that overwhelming. This meant starting from scratch. I been building businesses since 2002, specializing in technology and internet businesses and creating unique experiences for customers. I am a entrepreneur and have been my whole...
